fasting resources

Every month we participate in the Global Bridegroom Fast (GBF) where we fast and pray during the first Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the month, focusing on: Spiritual breakthrough in the worldwide Church, with unprecedented unity, purity, and power (Jn. 14:12; 17:2–23). A great harvest of souls converted by the power of God (up to a billion people) (Mt. 24:14). Worldwide revival, especially among the youth of the earth (Mal. 4:6). Revival in Israel and the fulfillment of all promises to Israel as a nation (Rom. 9:1–11:36). The release of God's grace for fasting, with worship and prayer in the earth. Also, the establishment of houses of prayer in the cities of the earth, including Israel (Isa. 62:6–7). A release of finances for the great harvest, the prayer movement, and the poor (Hag. 2:7–9). Divine protection over all that is birthed through prayer (Zech. 2:5).

TYPES OF FASTING

The practice of fasting in Scripture usually includes, but is not limited to, abstinence from food (Dan. 10:3). Besides food, we encourage you to search out the things that may bring you physical and emotional pleasure and ask God which of those pleasures He would have you abstain from (in addition to food). Below are some options for fasting from foods that you may want to consider. Fasting Options
  • Only fruits/vegetables and water (usually ideal for those carrying a heavy workload).
  • Only liquids (water, fruit juice, vegetable juice, broths, etc.)
  • Skip a meal (or two)
  • Water only (consult your doctor if you have pre-existing medical conditions that would make a water fast complicated).
We advise you to develop your own method (according to your own research, medical/physical condition, and agreement with God).  Abstaining from all food for extended periods of time is biblical, but was rare and unusual in Scripture (Ex. 34:28; 1 Kgs. 19:5-8; Lk. 4:2), and thus should never be undertaken without counsel and appropriate supervision.
